They came in the darkness, heralded by rain, lightning and thunder. Monsters of all shapes and sizes, swooping from the sky with claws outstretched, the tips itching to gouge into flesh. Zhang Liao didn't know how it was possible that so many could have appeared; none of the other warriors knew either, for as far as they could tell Empatheias could not hold these many monsters. All of them had their work cut out for them as they hacked and sawed through feather, hide and scale.
Zhang Liao remains focused on the task at hand. A living whirlwind of red death in the middle of this storm, he leaves a trail of corpses in his wake. He then receives a message that monsters were thick in one place; no one else can be spared, and he is needed to be there to protect those who lived nearby.
Zhang Liao listens dutifully, but when he receives the directions to where he must fight there's a shocked look that flashes across his face. Cutting the conversation short immediately despite the concerned look his comrade gave him, Zhang Liao feels his heart starting to beat again as he starts to run.
